The Sail and Explore Association is a Swiss based NGO, committed to marine conservation by combining sailing, science and education in order to find solutions and strengthen awareness for the protection of our oceans. One of the aims is to contribute to the protection of the marine environment from plastic pollution.

To do so, we conduct sailing expeditions with citizen scientists to collect microplastic data to gain a better understanding of the occurrence, distribution and impact of ocean plastics, to support local organizations and to sensitize and educate people about the global microplastic pollution.

Our guest speaker

Dr. Roman Lehner, co-founder of the association and Scientific project leader. Roman researches on the topic of micro- and nanoplastics and their possible impacts on human health at the Adolphe Merkle Institute in Fribourg. He also spent several years as a scientific guide on marine biological excursions and sailing trips.

Usually we do a face-to-face event. But while in covid period we had to adapt the event format. We hope you will enjoy the new online format. A Video Capsule or "Video Podcast" format was choosen. As it is our first entirely online event, we decided to record it in a “non-public” format. Permitting us to gain experience in post-production, and finally we will add it on our newly to be created Youtube Channel.

In our digital world, many companies face complex and intricate cyber threats. The risk of becoming a victim and the impact on business is no longer negligible. What used to be defacement attacks, credit card theft and fraud or ransomware against less protected individual user have now become complex, long enduring attacks against companies, with the goal of impairing business, obtain ransom, execute unauthorized financial transactions or steal secrets. This change in the quality and quantity of cyber-attacks happens continuously and will not stop for the years to come.

For our first event of 2020, we have the pleasure and honor to welcome two surprise experts in cybersecurity. In a three-part conference, they will present some recent examples of cyber-attacks, then they will talk about measures and means needed to handle these threats, and finally, they will present some ongoing activities (and opportunities) to transmit the necessary skills to the personnel in charge of protecting IT-systems.
